Kay Bradner

welcome to my website

I have been doing paintings all of my life. It has been a lovely life: a quiet and satisfying way to find my way.  My isolation has been tempered by working with other artists, teaching some and by family and friends.  I am especially grateful for the integrity and encouragement of the wonderful art dealers who have made it possible for me to do only art.  Cheryl Haines , Emmie Smock and Edith Caldwell in the past.  I am currently with Donna Seager Gallery in San Rafael, CA and Patty Look Lewis Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA.

Most of my recent paintings are oil on aluminum.  I like the way paint moves around on the smooth surface, the ability to score the drawing into the surface with a knife, raising a burr, and the fact I can float the paintings, unbound by frames, out from the wall.  On the image history page there are pieces showing my long meander through image making. I would find some new thing to draw and then experiment with different materials  and ways of painting or drawing to reach for what I saw.

Paintings pictured on the web  loose their size and their tactile qualities. Face to face you can see the paint swirled with a trowel, see the brushstrokes, see the burr from scoring sticking up to catch the paint. Here are some close-ups.
